Change is challenging. It is rewarding. It holds new possibilities. It demands action. It is uncertain. It is necessary. Most importantly, change is beautiful.
Last week I was able to share the fullness of my personal journey towards big changes. I am completely humbled and grateful for the outpouring of love and the countless messages of other women that want to step into this journey with me.
It would be an honor if you took 10 minutes to watch the live video where I unpack a total of 4 announcements that are changing the course of my life (and many others) forever.
Here is the readers digest version of these announcements:
1. I am starting a clothing line! Woo-Hoo!!!
This is truly a dream come true and the time is now. I have been frustrated as a stylist seeing major gaps in the clothing industry for certain body shapes. I am hoping to empower women through offering beautiful and flattering garment choices.
2. The line will be focused on celebrating all shapes with personalized suggestions for each shape.
This is meant to attack the lie that beauty looks one way. The hope is that you see exactly how beautiful your diverse shape is as well as living your life in confidence.
3. The MOST beautiful part! Just as I want you (the western woman) to feel empowered to live your life in fullness, we get the opportunity to reach out our hands both stateside and worldwide to give hope in the lives of women that have been trapped in a life of extreme poverty or sex trafficking. The hope of this line is to help end the cycle of extreme poverty by giving women a job with fair wages. I want our garment creators to live a life full of dignity and receive a livable income that covers their basic needs, which include food, shelter, education, and health care for their families. We can create jobs and give hope through the purchasing of clothing!
4. I am entering into a specific calling right now. Doors have been opening up just by sharing this new project idea. I cannot sustain Love, Krystle and dive into this new endeavor. I have made the choice to close Love, Krystle. My friend Ali McWilliams has told me many times, “When you say “no” to something, you are saying “yes” to something else. And it is my time to say no and yes by making this choice.
Over time, you will see a name change as well as the social media pages looking different. If you are currently on the Love, Krystle email list, I will keep you updated on the journey and if your heart is feeling moved, I would LOVE to have you be a part of building this brand. If you would like to be added to the email list to stay in the loop, send me a message! The more sisters the better, I cannot do this alone. So please share the news!
This is going to take some time to put legs on, but I will do my very best to keep you updated on every victory! I am virtually sending a million hugs to you right now.
P.S. If this post is moving your heart, I would love to hear your thoughts below in the comments. xoxo
I LOVE what I do. I love the women I meet, the creative art of styling, and continuing on with the positive message of loving yourself right where you are at. On top of it all, it is going well! Successful events, fantastic client base, why would I need to switch things up? Well... I had to examine why I was waking up exhausted, feeling our pace of life was unsustainable, and the breaking point for me, my relationship with my kids was suffering. "Is this worth it?" would come spilling out of my mouth at least once a month. You might be right there with me today. This update came as a bit of a surprise to me. After getting a nasty cold 3 weeks after I had another virus, I had a breakdown. Or as I like to call it, a "beautiful interruption" that is causing me to reassess my values and build them back into all aspects of my life.
After being sick, I took an intentional overnight alone to pray, journal, and dream. Although I can't share all of the details with you yet...I am SO grateful for that time away. It was precious and I was met with many profound revelations in such a short time. So now, it is time for me to step forward and align myself with those values. I have decided to take a summer sabbatical to focus on my family, nurture new dreams, and eat as many brats as humanly possible.
What has also been contributing to this "beautiful interruption" was our decision to move forward in pursuing the adoption of a 15 year old girl from Latvia. We had the privilege of hosting her over the month of December. Our home felt so empty when she had to return and we knew she was meant to be our first born. We have been up to our chins in home study paperwork and coordinating her return visit this summer. If you would like to follow our journey in pursuing adoption you can check out our Bringing Melisa Home page. Here is a video to summarize my heart in this next season...
One thing that I was trying to find words for in the video is how overwhelmingly encouraged I have been by you throughout my journey as a personal stylish. So many of you have spoken kind words that have propelled me forward, given me extremely valuable advise in my business, and some of you straight up told me I was worth more and I needed to raise my prices. How fortunate am I?!?
I love each and every one of you. Thank you for supporting me as I pour into my family in this next season. I am SO looking forward to where this journey takes us. I hope you enjoy each magical moment that comes your way this summer! xoxo
I truly hope that this title made you excitedly click to see what was in store for this month's blog post. I have been on a very personal journey the past 18 months of recognizing the impact that fast fashion is having on our world. Although this recognition has been heart wrenching, I have discovered that there are many solutions to the very real issues that are facing us as we learn to better care for the earth and ultimately the entire human race.
Personally, I was moved by the documentary The True Cost and I highly recommend giving it a watch. It removed the veil for me in regards to the fashion industry, in the same way that Food Inc. removed the veil for me in regards to the food industry...
So many people are affected by the fashion industry and watching The True Cost placed them right in front of me as if we were having dinner together. Beautiful human beings are being forced into a life of slavery, exposed to toxic amounts of chemicals, and much more. In addition to that, the fashion industry is now the world's second largest polluter.
Let's talk about what we can do...
If you aren't familiar with the term "capsule wardrobe", I would encourage you to explore the beauty & simplicity of this concept. In 2015, I shared my journey in creating my first capsule wardrobe. You can view and read more about my journey through the following links: A Capsule Wardrobe = Your Perfect Wardrobe, Capsule Wardrobe Part 1 - Defining Your Wardrobe, Capsule Wardrobe Part 2 - What To Keep & What To Let Go, Capsule Wardrobe Part 3 - My Summer Picks. Creating a capsule wardrobe is a great way to ensure you are purchasing intentionally and that your closet is only filled with items that you feel great in and that you absolutely love! It is the direction I am taking most of my clients these days.
This month's blog post picks are all classic pieces you would find in many women's wardrobes, but these pieces are "better". "Better" meaning they are produced in a more conscious way and fit into a combination of the following categories:
I hope this blog post has educated and encouraged you that together we can create big change in small ways. By purchasing more intentionally we can be a part of turning this around and showing the fashion industry what truly matters to us...
P.S. Another way I love to fight fast fashion is by shopping secondhand. My favorite local spot is Style Encore! I also love purchasing secondhand online through swap.com, eBay, poshmark, and tradesy. What are some ways you have committed or plan to commit to fighting fast fashion?
What if you were able to put an adorable outfit together and have it take as little thought and effort as slipping into yoga pants and an oversized tee? Sound as dreamy as 8 hours of sleep? I promise you, it is totally possible… it’s called the “Mommy Uniform” and I am going to show you how to get one. Time to hop over to my latest blog post on Madison Moms Blog called Get Dressed, Feel Good, Go Play - The Mommy Uniform where I'll be sharing how to make getting dressed as simple as…well… getting dressed. First things first, a message for my lovely readers...
I mean and stand behind every word of this blog title. I am so sick of magazine covers that say "Get Your Swimsuit Body in Only 5 Weeks!" or "How She Lost 20lbs. & Got Her Bikini Body..." The truth is, you have a swimsuit body right now and I will go even further and say you have a beautiful bikini body too. I can even give you the formula to achieve these goals:
Take one part your body + one part swimsuit = the perfect swimsuit body.
So do me a favor when you are in the Target checkout line and turn all that crap around.
Before we dive in, there are a few things I would like to address. This might not be the case for all of you, but I do find some resistance in swimsuit shopping from clients I work with (myself included).
My intention in creating this blog post is to make the process of finding a swimsuit actually enjoyable.
First, we need to learn to love and accept our bodies as they are and choose to accentuate our best features. Secondly, we can choose pieces that de-emphasize the areas we find challenging.
When we get hung up on the second, repeat the first as many times as you need to.
Please remember these tips when shopping for your swimsuit:
Swimsuits look way different out at a beach or poolside in natural light. We tend to pick ourselves a part under the harsh florescent lighting of a department store counting our cellulite. Stop it! In that same breath, the tag size doesn't matter! Always fit the most voluptuous part of you comfortably. With thousands of tops and bottoms to choose from, there are flattering options out there for you and your specific needs. In my opinion, a swimsuit is a "splurge" item. How often do you leave your house in your underwear? You need to feel confident and sexy. Don't cheat yourself.
If you have slimmer arms, legs, or hips but a curvy upper body, the swimwear below will help draw attention to your best assets by creating a waist and supporting your bust.
If you are looking to accentuate your bust and camouflage your tummy, these next swimsuits will be helpful in giving you a lovely silhouette.
If your body has little curve and you would like more of an hourglass shape, these swim suits will help you achieve that.
The hips on this suit are ruched which is super flattering and softening. I love that you can choose to cross the neck or leave it u-shape. It is also gorgeous in Black.
This bikini is making your curves work for you by accentuating an hourglass shape. The top wrap part of the bottoms are highlighting the smallest part of the natural waist while the rest gently sits on the hips. Available in sizes 4-24!
Tie bottoms are super flattering on the hips because you have control over how tight to tie them. No digging or cutting into your hips.
I love this pattern and the sporty vibe neckline. I would say this is best for smaller busts.
This wide band style is gentle on the hips, no hard seams prevents digging.
These are a great option is you prefer solid black bottoms.
This one piece is great if you are looking to draw attention upwards and away from your bottom half. Because of the beautiful off the shoulder design, it naturally draws your attention upwards.
This sporty style top would be adorable paired with Black bottoms. Again, we want to draw attention upwards and balance out the booty with a solid color.
The striped print along with the addition of underwire will draw attention up to your lovely face. This is a great nautical and super classic bikini top.
These solid navy bikini bottoms are great for your bum! They work together with the stripe top to balance and draw attention upwards.
The mesh with the chevron inspired pattern gives this suit an edgy and contemporary vibe. Drawing attention upwards with the pattern and creating a focal point at the waist is a great way to create balance.
