My New LOVE in the Form of Vintage Polka Dots
If you read my last post, it was all about a road trip involving antiquing and vintage shopping with my sister from another mister, Shawni ;)
I listed a few treasures that we found that day and had to show you in more detail how I created new outfits with this vintage polka dot blouse I bought...
I had no idea I would find so MANY ways to wear it. Check it out...
I hope you get inspired to pull out a piece in your closet and make it into different outfits! I think a valuable lesson I am learning is that it isn't about how many items of clothing you have, as much as it is about having those great pieces you can use in a many different ways. If you have 10 great staple items, how many different looks could you create? A lot...
P.S. I would love to know if you have an item(s) you like to use in many different ways. xoxo
Inspired by a Road Trip...
I had an amazing opportunity last week to take a day and literally enjoy the ride :)
My wonderful sister-in-law Shawni, who feels as close to me as a biological sister rather than an in-law AND is also one of my dearest friends, asked me to put a date on the calendar for a mini road trip together. We set the date for last Monday and before we knew it, the day was here!
We were off with no kids, no time frame, and most importantly, no responsibilities. We set our destination for Sparta, WI. Rebels without a cause! Well, not really...there isn't too much trouble we could get into in Sparta...
Shawni wanted to take me there because they have a few antique stores and a STELLAR Vintage Shop called WILDWOMAN'S. If you guys don't know this about me yet, I am a BIG fan of vintage. Re-use, Re-purpose, Re-Cycle! They certainly don't make things like they use too and I love finding those forgotten pieces.
Our first stop was an antique mall that housed a few different venders. There I found a few treasures...
After a leisurely break for lunch (I can't remember the last time THAT happened), we were on to our next stop. If you ever get an opportunity to visit Wildwoman's Vintage Shop in Sparta, you should totally do it! It is quite the experience. The space was built in 1928 as a theater and is now converted into retail space. When I walked in, I could see nothing but fabulous furs, sequin dresses, dress molds in flashy garments hanging from the ceiling...AND of course racks of clothing and shoes. Here is a pic of me and Shawni at the store.
Here are the treasures we found...
Vintage Coral Leather Belt
If you can believe it, I had to be talked into purchasing this fabulous belt. I know right?! When I tried it on it was slightly big for wearing it around my hips...so I went to put it back. Shawni grabbed it and showed me that because of the design of the belt, I could hook the belt on ANY loop, making it whatever size I needed it to be. Then the light bulb went on and I realized I could also make it into a waist belt as shown above. I LOVE it! Best $8 I ever spent. Thanks Shawni! xoxo
I also found...
This GORGEOUS vintage blue double strand necklace and earrings set. SCORE! Also for sale in my
Vintage Jewelry Shop ;)
Going on this road trip I was reminded that life is literally what I decide to make of it. To get out of the mundane routine of life, to do something fun and lighthearted was downright healing for me. I felt lighter, like I was seeing colors more vibrantly and breathing the cleanest air possible. Okay, I'll stop getting all artsy fartsy on you...
I feel like I brought my readers along with me that day. I hope you feel inspired to take a road trip, seek out new treasures, or try new things. It is so good for the soul...
P.S. Have you ever had an experience like this or have a place, person, or thing that revives you? Most days, it's my treat to a cup of coffee. I would LOVE to hear about yours :) xoxo
The Perfect Spring Dress for Your Body
I think EVERY women should have a spring dress that she feels beautiful and care free in. A dress that magnifies all of her best assets. I am SO excited to share with you a few fun options that will compliment your unique and fabulous shape.
I am going to list a description of different body shapes and display the suggested dress styles below. I'll also tell you why they work for your body ;) This is going to be fun...
If you are curvy on top and on bottom but have a smaller waist, here are some great dress styles for you:
If you have broader shoulders than your hips, here are your perfect dress styles:
If your body has little to no curve to it and is long, lean, or athletic, these are wonderful styles to give you some shape:
If you have more volume in your tummy and chest, these are some great style options for you:
If you carry more curve on your bottom half but have a leaner upper body, check out these sweet dresses:
I hope these helped to give you an idea of what dresses to look for this season. Remember, you can pair any of these with a cardigan or jacket if the weather is a bit chilly. A cardigan will dress them up and a jacket will dress them down.
If you don't normally wear dresses, I encourage you to try them this year! I promise you will feel amazing in them. Thank you for taking the time to read about spring dresses ;)
P.S. I have mostly solid color dresses, but I hope to do more patterns this year. What kind of dresses do you have in your closet? XOXO
Inspired by Color in a Catalog
Inspiration for looks can come from anywhere, but the most common place I find new ideas is when looking through the latest catalog of my favorite stores. I was inspired today after seeing this outfit put together in J Crew's latest catalog. I scanned it in from the actual catalog, so sorry for the quality of the photo.
I LOVE the Color combo. I have never thought about doing lilac with orange. I also like how the colorful tops play with the leopard pattern on the bottom. I had to try something like this for myself, but make it more everyday friendly. I grabbed a few things from my closet and here is what I came up with...
Here is how FAB they look together.
To tone it down for everyday, I paired this wonderful tank and cardi with my basic straight leg jeans and black flats.
Wow, that was fun! I hope you have a wonderful day.
P.S. Have you ever been inspired by fashion in a magazine or catalog? I would love to hear about it ;) xoxo
Spring Shoe Styles #2 Rain Boots
I am so excited to share some thoughts about rain boots! Rain boots never really go out of style.
We definitely get our use out of them in rainy weather, but even now with the slush from the snow melting they are helpful. I just found a pair at Gap in a super happy green! I wore them today just to change things up from my usual leather riding boots. I felt like I was asking for spring to come early...
How I wore them : Because my rain boots are a super bright color, I decided to pair them with more of a neutral color palette. A heather grey v-neck sweater, navy and grey stripped skirt, and charcoal leggings. I am wearing a fashion scarf with a little turquoise in it. It was a nice play off the green :)
I will definitely get more adventurous in using these to play with color, but today was a good balance of neutral with a pop of color :)
Now, let's find the the rain boots that are right for you! Mine were moderate in cost ($39.99) and I wanted a bright color. You may not and that's okay ;) Here are some great options at different price ranges. Most of these come in lots of different colors, so be sure to see what else is available:
Budget Under $35
Splurge $60 and Up
You can wear your rain boots the same way you wear your regular boots, with skinny jeans, skirts, dresses, leggings...etc. I hope you have fun with them! I am looking forward to puddle jumping this spring, let me know if you want to join me ;)
P.S. I would love to hear from you! Do you have rain boots ready to pull out for spring? Thank you for reading. xoxo
The Accessory that Goes with Literally Every Outfit
I was completely inspired by this accessory after suggesting it to my wonderful client Ali. She is a personal trainer and needs an accessory she can wear with her work out wear and easily transfer to her weekend outfits.
Here is the solution, a necklace that gives the illusion of being barely there. These necklaces sit up high on the neckline (a very flattering spot for all women), and acts light as air on the skin to give you a barely there illusion to make you look instantly put together. They will even be seen when wearing a crew neck tee shirt! Whether your a mommy on the go, headed to the gym, or going out for dinner, these will always be perfect. You can layer them with other necklaces too, they blend in perfectly. So excited to share these!
These necklaces are much smaller than they appear. Once you click on one, the website has more photos to show you how they look when wearing them.
I have a horseshoe pendant necklace I wear ALL the time! I know it will work with whatever I'm wearing. I hope these where something fun and new to check out. I think they are absolutely adorable. I hope you have a wonderful day!
P.S. Do you have a go to necklace that works with everything? I would love to hear about it...
