I had a ridiculous amount of fun picking out these looks for you! These items will blend in with your existing pieces giving you a variety of fresh looks for Spring. I focused on items that are universally flattering and tastefully on trend.
The perfect trench...
This Drapey Trench in cloudy blue gives an updated twist to the classic trench. Great for all body shapes.
This lightweight, beautifully structured Salvador Top has a universally flattering shape because it gathers at the waist. It can be paired with denim, a pencil skirt, or ankle pants (or this style of ankle pants if you have more curve in the hip and thighs and tend to get gaping in the waist).
Sleeveless jackets are my latest obsession...chic and totally on trend. This Notch Collar Vest is made in the USA. Want a more casual option? Check out this Military style. Or this Navy Longline with a belt to define your waist...or this one in a beautiful olive color...okay, okay...told you I was obsessed.
Soft Denim Dresses...
Soft denim is a big trend for spring...I love the mix of comfort with style. This Chambray Shirtdress is the perfect everyday throw on with cognac flat or heeled sandals.
Off the shoulder fun...
Off the shoulder garments like this or this are another lovely spring trend...keep in mind, they are best if you have shoulders that are small to average. If your shoulder reach broader than your hips, I would suggest sleeveless or short sleeve tops. Don't feel left out! Not all trends are for every body and knowing that will save you lots of time, money, and heartbreak <3
Denim jackets are a must...
You will grab your updated denim jacket over and over again this spring. I promise...it goes with EVERYTHING.
Handmade geode jewelry...
I really love supporting other small businesses and entrepreneurs. My latest favorite purchase was this blue geode necklace from an Etsy store called The Hallow Geode
Stripes of course...
The perfect striped shirt that fits you beautifully is a super important spring staple. the style now is fitted through the arms and shoulders, but should give you some room to front tuck the tummy. This style also prevents clinging to the tummy area which is a win win win!
Add a little yellow to your world...
An adorable universally flattering fit and flare skirt is great too, but on top of that, this rich yellow is part of the spring 2016 trend colors. Yellow always makes me happy...
Update with shoes...
The easiest way to bring new life to previous seasons is updating your footwear. Adding an current style like these heeled mules, simplistic sandal flats , or white sneakers will bring your past spring styles in to 2016.
I hope you enjoyed these Love Looks! It is a great time of year to try something new and fun.
P.S. Do you think once each season is enough to be posting new items?? Would you prefer suggestions every month? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and getting your feedback. xoxo
Picture this...it's early 1900's. The start of fashion photography is gracing the covers of popular reading material such as; LIFE magazine, Collier’s, and Harper’s...and what are they showcasing? The Gibson Girl, the "it" girl shape of the 1900's. You were a Gibson Girl if you had: A round, soft body gathered together at a small waist. This may sound familiar to it's sister shape of the 1950's the glorified "it" girl shape of this decade was of course, The Hourglass . Although, following shortly after it is The Twig, the highlighted shape of the 1960's. This shape had no curve on a tall and thin frame, which is reminiscent of the desired shape of the 1920's The Flapper. Curve was not considered attractive in these two decades.
The result...a record amount of amphetamines were prescribed for weight loss in the 1960's.
Certain body shapes have been glorified each decade throughout recent history. Teaching women one moment that their curves are worthy of admiration then a few years later asking them to sit on the sidelines and apologize for that curve. Or the opposite, you are not feminine if you don't have curve... Unfortunately, many of us have grown up under some sort of "ideal" body shape. We have compared our bodies to the "it" girl body shapes at the time. In the last 20 years we have been inundated with photo shop, going under the knife/needle, and glorifying a rock hard body that takes a full time job to achieve. The bar has been set at a non-obtainable level that blurs the line of real and normal. It has robbed intelligent, strong, and beautiful women into believing the lie that they are not meeting the standard.
"I look nothing like that." Starting as young as 11 years old, I used to tell myself, "What is wrong with me..."
Have you ever been there as an adult? Cursing your hips and thighs or angrily pinching your tummy? "What is wrong with me...I am so gross..." And on and on the downward spiral goes until self hatred has formed what you see in the mirror.
If you can identify with what I am saying, this video below will feed your soul some truth. I beg of you to really hear the heart of this message, let it sink into your mind and work it's way in to your heart. Change the way you think about your body and specifically your shape and I promise you, it will change how you treat yourself, value yourself, and love yourself. It will change the way you treat and love others. What culture has told you about your body is a straight up lie.
All body shapes are beautiful...period.
What did this bring up in your heart? Was it freeing to hear that you are born with the beautiful shape you have? Or did you have a different response? This is a safe place for honesty and I would love to hear your thoughts...
P.S. If you know of someone that would really benefit from this message, please share it! We need to lift each other up with the truth. xoxo
