In the next few weeks, I am going to cover 5 clothing items that will help take the gloom out of the last few months of winter and put a little spring in your step come the warmer months ahead.
The first item in my first post(*** Squeak!!!***) is the lovely SHIFT DRESS I suggest buying a shift dress in a bright white, canary yellow, cobalt blue, kelly green, red, turquoise, orange, fun pattern...etc. Basically any color(s) that makes you feel happy.
(FYI the rule “don’t wear white after labor day” does not exist in fashion anymore. You can wear white whenever you’d like! Except maybe a wedding ;)
Shift dresses have many different sleeve options : full length, ¾ sleeve, short sleeve, cap sleeve, or sleeveless. They are all wonderful and will blend in perfectly when the weather warms up, just pick the sleeve that is most flattering to your body.
If you LOVE your arms, go sleeveless or cap sleeve, if you would like a little more coverage, go with a full length or ¾ sleeve.
How to wear a shift dress NOW:
In colder weather, you will definitely want to layer your shift dress. There a few great ways of doing that. I suggest adding a fitted jacket or blazer that gives you some structure. Depending on your personal style or work appropriate options you can adjust how dressy or casual your dress appears.
To dress it down, add a bomber jacket, moto jacket, or military jacket. To dress it up, add a structured blazer or nice cardigan. Also try putting a nice v-neck sweater over your dress or long button down cardigan. With any layering choice, pair with leggings or tights and tall boots.
Accessory TIP: Adding a fashion scarf will add interest to your outfit while helping you stay warm.
How to wear a shift dress LATER:
Once the weather warms up, you have a few more ways to play with your shift dress. It’s all about shedding some of your winter layers. Try going without a jacket, blazer, or cardigan, but still incorporate your boots (with or without your leggings/tights).
OR you can do the opposite and trade in your boots for some cute flats, pumps, or strappy sandals and keep the jacket, blazer or cardi on top. It is about finding balance when shedding layers, you either want your top half or your bottom half more exposed.
Accessory TIP: Try adding a waist belt. Find some fun vintage or vintage inspired ear rings to complete the mod look and add bangles to accentuate your feminine wrists.
P.S. I would love to hear your thought and questions...what do you have your eye on this spring?
